Overview

The plastic may be a pure resin or a mixture of various additives, and the resin acts as a binder. The purpose of the added additive is to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the pure resin, to improve the processing properties or to save the resin.

Therefore, the most basic physicochemical properties of plastics are determined by the nature of the resin. The resin can be divided into a natural resin and an artificial resin, which is also called a synthetic resin.

Resins are all high polymers, and these polymers have unique molecular internal structures and molecular external structures. The internal structure of the polymer determines the most basic physicochemical properties of the polymer; while the external structure of the polymer determines the processing properties and physical and mechanical properties of the polymer.

The structure of the polymer after solidification between the chains can be divided into non-crystalline (amorphous), semi-crystalline and crystalline. Therefore, plastics also have amorphous and crystalline types.

When the crystalline plastic is solidified, there is a process of nucleation to grain formation to form a certain body state. Such as PE, PP, PA, POM, etc. are all crystalline.

When the amorphous plastic is solidified, the growth process of no crystal nucleus and crystal grains is only the "freezing" of the free macromolecular chain such as PS, PVC, PMMA, PC, and the like.

According to the reflection of the plastic's effect on heat, it can be divided into two types: thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics: thermoplastics are characterized by heating to soften and return to solid state upon cooling. This reversible process can be repeated many times. Such as: PS, PVC, PA, PP, POM, etc.; and thermosetting plastics can be converted into a plastic melt at a certain temperature, but if the temperature is continued to increase, the heating time will be cross-linked and solidified inside the polymer. It can no longer be softened to its original state by heating, and it cannot be processed repeatedly. Such as: epoxy, furan, amino, phenolic and so on.

Polyolefin, polyolefin is a general term for olefin polymers, generally refers to homopolymers and copolymers of ethylene, propylene and butene.
